Fear has gripped the residents of Ndagbo Afara, Umuahia North, Abia State after a mentally unstable man brutally murdered his sister and her twin children before fleeing the scene.
The suspect, identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, reportedly attacked his sister, Chinomso Nwabali James, and her four-year-old twins, Moses and Marvelous, in their family home. Witnesses said he buried the children in a shallow grave before being caught dragging his sister’s lifeless body across the compound. However, before he could be apprehended, he fled to an unknown location.
Following the gruesome discovery, community members expressed fear that the suspect could return and harm others. Some have called on the state government and security forces to ensure his immediate arrest. The police have assured residents that efforts are underway to track him down.
Speaking on the tragedy, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, urged families to seek proper medical attention for relatives with mental health conditions rather than keeping them at home without professional care. She reiterated that authorities are working tirelessly to capture the fugitive and bring him to justice.
