Ado Haruna, an informant to bandits, set up his nephew, Alhaji Bashiru Anas, for abduction, leading to a ransom of N13 million. Despite his role in the plot, Haruna received only N200,000. The victims were held for 60 days, while Haruna was arrested by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
Ado Haruna, a suspected informant to bandits, has confessed to orchestrating the abduction of his nephew, Alhaji Bashiru Anas, and his family. Haruna reportedly tipped off bandits about the family's potential for a profitable kidnapping. In collaboration with other criminals, he led the bandits to Anas’s residence, where they abducted his two wives, three children, and his brother and his wife.
The abduction took place around 1 a.m., but Anas was not at home. The victims were taken to a remote location in Buruku Sabo Birni and held captive for 60 days. During this time, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N13 million, along with four new motorcycles and N300,000 worth of Airtel recharge cards.
The ransom was eventually paid, and the victims were released. However, Haruna, who helped plan the kidnapping, received a mere N200,000 from the ransom money. The authorities, acting on intelligence from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), arrested Haruna and others involved in the crime.
In a separate arrest, Nyali Hassan, another suspected kidnapper, was apprehended by IRT operatives while in possession of an AK-47 rifle. Further investigations revealed that Haruna and his accomplices were part of a larger network of criminals operating across multiple towns in Kano and Kaduna states, specializing in kidnappings and banditry. The police continue to investigate these criminal groups.
