In a recent meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized his commitment to serving Nigeria and achieving tangible outcomes for its citizens, rather than pursuing personal interests. This statement was made during his engagement with a forum of former presiding officers of the National Assembly, led by ex-Senate President Ken Nnamani.
Tinubu, who expressed gratitude for the support from the forum's 16 members, reiterated the importance of unity and collaboration among political factions to drive national progress. “I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” he stated.
He acknowledged the challenges facing the nation, particularly the economic hardships that have arisen from mismanagement of past opportunities during high crude oil production. “Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here? We neglected our communities and forgot to educate our children,” he lamented.
The president outlined key priorities for his administration, including enhancing infrastructure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and exploring alternative energy sources. He urged the former lawmakers to continue offering their expertise to foster national development.
Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, affirmed their support for Tinubu's administration, highlighting the pressing challenges of insecurity and economic downturn that require decisive leadership. He expressed confidence in Tinubu's ability to navigate these difficulties and restore Nigeria's standing on the global stage.
