Senator Ali Ndume clarifies that his criticisms are directed at President Tinubu’s policies, not his personality. While disagreeing with certain policies, Ndume emphasizes his respect for Tinubu and discusses pressing issues like economic hardship and rising banditry, proposing solutions for national security and military funding.

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, recently addressed his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, clarifying that his criticisms are directed at the president’s policies rather than his character.

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Ndume emphasized that Tinubu is a respected mentor, and despite their policy disagreements, he holds him in high regard. Ndume specifically pointed to the economic challenges facing the country, which he believes are influenced by certain advisers around the president, and expressed concerns about Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms. The senator even threatened to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to these policy issues.

However, Ndume was clear in his distinction between criticizing Tinubu as a person and offering constructive criticism for the betterment of Nigeria. He reiterated that while he disagrees with some of Tinubu's policies, his criticisms are aimed at strengthening the country, not undermining the leadership. He also reflected on his relationship with the president, sharing a lighthearted anecdote about Tinubu’s visit to his daughter’s wedding, which further underscored the mutual respect between them.

Ndume also touched on security concerns, particularly the rise of banditry in the northwest, suggesting that increased military funding and the deployment of additional attack helicopters could help address the issue. He expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army’s capabilities to combat terrorism effectively.
