Former Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has defended her financial decisions amid an EFCC probe into alleged ₦138 million fraud. She insists funds were used prudently and supplemented with personal resources. She praised EFCC’s professionalism and pledged full cooperation, maintaining her commitment to transparency in public service.
Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has addressed the recent probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), insisting that she managed public funds responsibly during her tenure.

On Thursday, Kennedy-Ohanenye appeared before the anti-graft agency over allegations linked to a ₦138 million financial misappropriation. She clarified that her visit was voluntary and aimed at providing necessary explanations regarding her handling of ministry funds.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, she detailed her engagement with EFCC officials, stating that she arrived at the agency’s headquarters at 2:15 p.m. and concluded discussions by 6:50 p.m. She expressed her appreciation for the professionalism of the EFCC officers and assured full cooperation with any further inquiries.

Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that, as a minister, she prioritized accountability and transparency, utilizing the ministry’s resources prudently. She further claimed that she contributed funds to support initiatives aimed at empowering Nigerian women and children under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The former minister reiterated her commitment to upholding integrity in public service and stated that all financial matters under her leadership were handled by due process.

Kennedy-Ohanenye was among the five ministers dismissed by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.
