The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, revealed a disturbing incident on Friday, stating that he was arrested by the police in Owerri and subsequently handed over to a group of waiting thugs who subjected him to a severe beating. Ajaero reported that the seven thugs treated him like a common criminal, dragging him on the floor.
According to the NLC president, they had notified all security agencies before their protest in Imo State on November 1. However, workers arriving at the protest venue at 7 am were attacked by thugs who confiscated their phones. Ajaero, arriving at 9 am after learning about the assaults, was arrested by the police and handed over to the waiting thugs.
Expressing the brutality of the incident, Ajaero stated, “I can’t explain the beating I received. They tied my hands and dragged me on the floor like a common criminal.” He also refuted the claim by the Imo State government that he is a card-carrying member of the Labour Party, emphasizing, “I am not a card-carrying member of any political party as alleged.”
