An Ibadan man, Hamzat, seeks divorce, alleging his wife, Safiyat, used water from washing her private parts to cook his meals. He also accuses her of theft and witchcraft. The Grade A Customary Court adjourned the case to April 8 after Safiyat failed to appear in court.
An Ibadan man, Hamzat (surname withheld), has petitioned the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of his marriage to his wife, Safiyat, over allegations of misconduct and witchcraft.
In his testimony, Hamzat accused Safiyat of being stubborn, troublesome, and frequently engaging in fights. He further alleged that she conspired with her mother to manipulate and control him through diabolical means. According to him, Safiyat washed her private parts and used the water to prepare his meals, an act he claimed was intended to cast a spell on him.
Beyond these allegations, Hamzat described his wife as a thief who regularly stole his money and valuable items, severely affecting his business. He lamented that their once-promising marriage, which had produced three children, had turned into a nightmare. He insisted that despite numerous attempts to resolve their issues, Safiyat remained disrespectful and defiant, often shouting at him in public.
Hamzat requested the court to grant him full custody of their children and issue an order preventing Safiyat from harassing or interfering in his life. Despite being served multiple court summonses, Safiyat failed to appear before the court.
Presiding over the case, Judge S.M. Akintayo adjourned the hearing to April 8, directing that another notice be served to Safiyat before further proceedings.
