A petrol tanker caught fire along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan on Thursday, causing panic among motorists and pedestrians. The tanker, which fell after dodging another vehicle, ignited, triggering a massive blaze. Emergency responders, including the Oyo State Fire Services, contained the situation. The casualty details remain unconfirmed.

Chaos erupted on Thursday at the Aduloju area along the Iwo Road-Ojoo section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway after a petrol tanker overturned and burst into flames. Motorists and pedestrians fled for safety as thick black smoke filled the air, with fears that the fire could spread to nearby buildings.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker fell while attempting to navigate the pothole-ridden road, colliding with another truck in the process. The impact caused a massive explosion, sending panic across the area. Residents and bystanders immediately alerted emergency responders.

The Oyo State Fire Services, supported by staff from a nearby BOVAS filling station, swiftly responded to contain the inferno. However, the extent of casualties and property damage remains unclear.

Reverend Akinyemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident but stated that a full assessment would be available by Friday. “Our men are on the ground managing the situation,” he said.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over the poor state of Nigerian roads and the dangers posed by heavy-duty vehicles. Residents have called for urgent road repairs to prevent future disasters.

Authorities are expected to release a detailed report soon, while commuters are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid disruptions.
