Her mother pleads for public support, stressing Naomi’s innocence and history of charity. The tragic event has stirred debates on accountability and event safety. Authorities are investigating the incident.

Prophetess Naomi Ogunseyi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, faces charges in connection to the tragic death of 35 children during a funfair event in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred at Bashorun Islamic High School, where a stampede broke out hours before the event began.

An Ibadan Magistrate Court remanded Naomi and two others on December 24. In a heartfelt plea shared via social media, her mother insisted on her daughter’s innocence, highlighting Naomi’s decade-long charitable efforts for children, the elderly, and pregnant women. She urged Nigerians to intervene, emphasizing that Naomi’s intentions were altruistic and not malicious.

According to reports, the stampede happened early in the morning, well before the event’s official start. Naomi’s mother lamented that her daughter was secretly arraigned and now faces a murder charge. She pleaded for mercy, asserting that Naomi had been misjudged for a tragic accident beyond her control.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with some criticizing the lack of foresight in event organization, while others expressed sympathy for Naomi and her efforts to do good. INTERPOL has urged accountability and due process in such tragedies to ensure justice for the victims and fair treatment for those accused.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
