Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, a member of the House of Representatives for Ethiope West, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Her resignation is attributed to her exclusion from PDP activities in Delta State, despite winning the 2023 election on the party’s platform.
Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ethiope West federal constituency in Delta State, has officially switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, announced in a letter to the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
In her letter, Ibori-Suenu explained that her decision to resign from the PDP was prompted by her exclusion from the party’s activities in Delta State. She expressed her complete disassociation from the PDP, surrendering her membership card as part of her resignation process. Despite winning the 2023 election under the PDP, Ibori-Suenu has now aligned with the APC, citing dissatisfaction with her treatment within the PDP as the primary reason for her departure.
This move is noteworthy as Ibori-Suenu's father, James Ibori, has had notable political differences with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, further intensifying the political dynamics in the state. Her defection highlights the ongoing shifts in party alliances in Nigeria's political landscape, especially in the wake of state and national elections.
