In response to the alarming surge in insecurity nationwide, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has summoned a crucial meeting with the Force Management Team and Tactical Squads. The move comes after reports of brazen bandit attacks on residences, culminating in the tragic deaths of several Abuja residents, including a 13-year-old secondary school student, due to the failure to meet ransom payment deadlines.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the IGP's deep concern over the escalating events, emphasizing the imperative for decisive action. The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of current security challenges, strategic planning, and the deployment of tactical resources to counter emerging threats.
During the discussions, the IGP stressed the necessity of a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach to address the evolving security landscape. Tactical squads were briefed and directed to intensify efforts in deploying proactive measures to prevent criminal activities and safeguard citizens.
Assuring Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory, of enhanced security measures, the IGP instructed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations, to personally coordinate the escalated security strategies aimed at dismantling kidnappers and other criminal elements in the FCT while promptly restoring normalcy.
Apart from operational strategies, the IGP underscored the significance of community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. These efforts are intended to gather information, foster trust, and encourage a collective approach in combating criminal elements. As the nation grapples with escalating security concerns, law enforcement agencies are taking urgent steps to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
