Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has made a significant move by tendering his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), citing a profound misalignment between his personal beliefs and the current trajectory of the party.
In a resignation letter addressed to the chairman of his constituency in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Ihedioha emphasized his unwavering commitment to advancing democracy and good governance in Nigeria, despite parting ways with the party he had been associated with since its inception in 1998.
Throughout his tenure with the PDP, Ihedioha played a pivotal role in the party's growth and evolution, contributing to its internal reforms and providing credible leadership both in and out of power. However, recent developments within the party have left Ihedioha disillusioned, as he expressed concerns over its deviation from core principles, including the failure to implement internal reforms, adhere to regulations, and effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his resignation letter, Ihedioha lamented the party's inability to heed counsel and uphold its founding ideals, ultimately leading to his decision to disassociate himself from the PDP.
Despite the difficulty of this decision, Ihedioha remains steadfast in his commitment to serving Nigeria and vows to continue contributing towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in the country. His departure from the PDP underscores broader challenges within the Nigerian political landscape and raises questions about the party's future direction in the face of internal dissent.
