IKEDC has increased electricity tariffs for Band A customers to N209.5/kWh, effective July 1, 2024. The change has sparked a backlash from residents, citing service inconsistencies and fairness concerns. Despite assurances of improved service, many consumers remain dissatisfied with the current electricity provision.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has announced an increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, effective from July 1, 2024. The new rate is set at N209.5/kWh, up from the previous N206.80/kWh. This change is part of the service-based tariff regime aimed at enhancing service delivery across the Ikeja Electric network, which covers parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

In a statement on its social media handles, IKEDC assured consumers that the adjustment would help maintain the improved service levels currently experienced. The company also clarified that tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E would remain unchanged.

However, the announcement has sparked significant backlash from residents, particularly those in Band A, who took to social media to express their frustrations.

One resident lamented, "20hrs of light is now 20hrs of blackout and we are in so-called Band A at Alausa Oregun." This sentiment was echoed by another who questioned the fairness and accuracy of the tariff changes: "What's all this insensitivity and wickedness?

Another resident expressed their anger succinctly, while another highlighted the inconsistency in power supply despite the increased rates: "And there is no power for those of us living on College Road. Keep on increasing to 270."
