Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ chances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage, following the team’s draw against Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Despite acknowledging the rising strength of African teams, including those considered underdogs, Ikpeba believes the group is fair for Nigeria, and that the Super Eagles have a strong opportunity to advance to the next round.

Ikpeba pointed out that while the competition is expected to be challenging, with even lesser-known teams showing significant improvement, Nigeria has the quality and experience to navigate through the group stage successfully. He emphasized that the Super Eagles are capable of handling the pressure and securing qualification for the knockout phase.

The former football star also shared optimism about the team’s new coach, Eric Chelle, who was appointed ahead of the tournament. Ikpeba praised Chelle’s extensive knowledge of African football, noting that his fresh approach and youthful energy would benefit the team.
