Gunmen have kidnapped Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, the parish priest of St. Theresa's Catholic Parish in Obollo Community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State. The abduction occurred on Tuesday evening, November 5, 2024, as Fr. Azubuike was returning from an assignment in the Ayayi community.

Church authorities confirmed the incident, with the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe issuing a statement calling for prayers for the priest’s safe return. The statement, signed by Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, Chancellor/Secretary of the Diocese, urged the faithful to remain hopeful and trust in the power of solidarity for the priest's release.

“We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound,” the statement read, emphasizing the importance of faith and community support during this challenging time.

The police in Imo State have also responded to the incident. State police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed that an investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to locate and rescue the kidnapped priest. Authorities are working to uncover any leads that may aid in the swift resolution of the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
