The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the sudden redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Stephen Olarewaju, just days before the upcoming off-season polls scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.
The decision to reassign the Commissioner of Police comes amidst allegations and controversies that have arisen on social media regarding his performance in the state. The IGP, addressing these concerns during an appearance on Channels Television’s People’s Townhall on Election Security, confirmed the change, stating, "I am aware that there have been allegations on social media against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, but for this election, we are changing the commissioner of police in Imo."
