Lagosians are furious over a major traffic gridlock caused by ongoing construction works led by Minister Dave Umahi. The traffic chaos, especially on key roads, has led to criticisms about the project's management and planning, with many questioning the lack of research and impact assessments.

The ongoing traffic nightmare in Lagos has triggered public outrage, particularly after the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, came under fire for perceived incompetency in handling the situation. The city experienced a massive gridlock yesterday, particularly on Ozumba Mbadiwe, Adeola Odeku, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island, which lasted until 5 AM.

In response, Umahi ordered the immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge to alleviate the chaos. However, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that despite the ongoing construction, the government will continue with the works and find ways to ease the traffic flow. He emphasized that the bridge has been under construction for over three years and must be completed.

On the ground, some commuters believe it is nearly impossible to reopen the road, as the asphalt has been excavated too deeply. For any reopening to happen, the road would need to be a priority, requiring significant work to refill the asphalt by evening.

This has sparked a wave of criticism from Nigerians, with many questioning if proper research and planning were done before beginning the project. Concerns have also been raised about the lack of an environmental impact assessment, referencing the controversial coastal highway project. As frustrations mount, commuters demand answers and a more efficient resolution.
