INEC has clarified that no final decision has been made on the ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, following protests over the proposed electoral changes. INEC emphasized the ongoing consultations and urged stakeholders to submit their concerns, ensuring decisions are made fairly, based on law and consultations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency. This follows protests in Delta, including a shutdown of an oil facility in Warri South-West, in response to the commission's recent proposal.

The protests were triggered by INEC's unveiling of the proposed delineation of wards and polling units, a process mandated by the Supreme Court in December 2022. The apex court directed INEC to carry out the delineation in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas (LGAs).

INEC national commissioner Sam Olumekun explained that the commission had conducted extensive consultations between February 2023 and July 2024. These consultations involved key stakeholders and fieldwork in the affected communities. On April 4, 2025, INEC presented a draft report to the Warri stakeholders, allowing them to raise concerns.

Despite the ongoing discussions, Olumekun emphasized that INEC had not finalized its decision on the matter. The commission has urged stakeholders to submit their observations on the draft, which will inform further engagement. INEC also appealed for peace and security in the region, assuring that all decisions would be made in consultation with all parties, based on fairness and the rule of law.

The situation remains unresolved, with continued efforts to reach an agreement that satisfies all involved.
