The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognized Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the legitimate APGA national chairman, following a Supreme Court ruling that settled the leadership dispute with Edozie Njoku. INEC confirmed compliance with the judgment, restoring Ezeokenwa’s name on its official records and ending the prolonged leadership tussle.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the rightful national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in line with a recent Supreme Court ruling.

The leadership tussle within APGA began in 2023, with Sylvester Ezeokenwa and Edozie Njoku both laying claim to the position. However, the Supreme Court delivered a decisive judgment in November 2024, affirming Ezeokenwa’s leadership. The court ruled that Edozie Njoku had no legal basis to represent himself as the party’s national chairman, dismissing claims based on an earlier 2021 decision that had been corrected in March 2024.

Following this ruling, INEC addressed the matter during a recent meeting. In a statement on Tuesday, Sam Olumekun, INEC's National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, confirmed the commission’s compliance with the court judgment.

“The Commission has received the Supreme Court’s decision (Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024) delivered on November 27, 2024, which recognizes Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the national chairman of APGA,” Olumekun said. “In line with this judgment, INEC has restored Barrister Ezeokenwa’s name to our official records and website.”
