INEC has flagged missing contact details in the recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The petition, backed by 474,554 signatures, lacks full addresses and multiple contact numbers. INEC says verification will proceed only if submission requirements are met while exploring alternative means to contact petitioners’ representatives.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged irregularities in the recall petition against Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. According to the commission, those behind the petition failed to provide complete contact details, making official communication difficult.
INEC confirmed receiving six bags of documents containing signatures from over 474,000 registered voters, but the submission lacked crucial information, such as detailed addresses and multiple contact numbers. Only a single phone number for the lead petitioner was included, while the given address was too vague for proper verification.
The recall effort follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate in March after a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Supporters of the recall argue that the district needs uninterrupted representation, while critics see it as politically motivated.
INEC stressed that the recall process must follow legal procedures, including verification of signatures using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The commission is now working on alternative ways to reach the petitioners and will provide further updates as the process unfolds.
