Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has sadly confirmed the passing of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.
Initially believed to have survived the accident due to slight finger movements observed on Wednesday, Junior Pope and three colleagues met their tragic fate while returning from a movie location in a boat that capsized on Anam River in Anambra State. Rollas, who initially expressed hope, later shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating efforts to revive Junior Pope were unsuccessful.
The actor, who entered Nollywood in 2006, gained prominence after his role in the blockbuster movie "Secret Adventures" directed by Tchidi Chikere. Junior Pope featured in over 150 Nollywood films, portraying various roles such as criminals, villains, and hitmen.
He received several awards, including Nollywood Most Promising Actor in Nigeria and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at prestigious ceremonies like the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
His passing leaves a void in the industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a talented performer.
