The EFCC confirmed the killing of its officer, Aminu Salisu, during an operation in Anambra. The suspect, Joshua Ikechukwu, shot Salisu after refusing to comply with arrest orders. The EFCC has condemned the attack, highlighting the growing risks posed by internet fraudsters and pledging to prosecute the suspect.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the tragic killing of Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu in Anambra State. Salisu was fatally shot during an operation aimed at arresting suspected internet fraudsters on January 17. The suspect, Joshua Ikechukwu, noticed the EFCC officers via CCTV and refused to open his door, despite their polite requests. When the officers persisted, Ikechukwu opened fire, killing Salisu and injuring another officer.

The EFCC disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed Ikechukwu’s involvement in fraudulent activities, including online medical supplies. Several items, including laptops and recording devices, were seized from his apartment.

The EFCC condemned any attempts to distort the facts surrounding Salisu’s death and emphasized that the officer was performing his duties in line with official protocols. The commission also warned the public about the increasing dangers posed by internet fraudsters, who are now involved in more violent crimes, including kidnapping and ritual killings. The EFCC reiterated its commitment to prosecuting Ikechukwu and any other criminals who attack its officers.

As the agency mourns the loss of Salisu, it expressed gratitude for the support from other agencies and individuals during this difficult time, pledging to continue its fight against corruption and internet fraud in Nigeria.
