The Nigeria Police Cybercrime Unit recovered ₦8 billion and $115,000 in 2024, arrested 751 cybercriminals, and dismantled major networks. Recognized by INTERPOL as Africa’s Best Cybercrime Unit, it also seized devices, properties, and vehicles used in cybercrime operations, reinforcing its commitment to securing Nigeria’s digital space.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced significant achievements by its cybercrime unit in 2024, including the recovery of over ₦8 billion and $115,000 from fraudulent activities. This accomplishment highlights the unit’s commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring justice for victims.
According to police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the unit arrested and prosecuted 751 individuals involved in cybercrime last year. Recovered funds were returned to victims, reinforcing the NPF's dedication to protecting citizens in the digital space.
In addition to financial recoveries, the unit confiscated 685 devices used in cybercrime, including 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops, and 46 routers. Other confiscated items included 16 houses, 39 plots of land, and 26 vehicles, effectively dismantling networks and enabling criminal activities.
The unit’s performance earned it the title of Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024, an accolade awarded by INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore. Competing against 54 African countries, the NPF cybercrime unit secured the top spot for its strategic and impactful operations.
Adejobi also reported the recent arrest of four suspects—Douglass Victor, Egbo Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody—linked to cyber-related offenses
