Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, reportedly agrees to abide by negotiated terms for potential release from DSS custody, sparking optimism among Southeast senators. Abaribe's statement contrasts with Kanu's legal team clarification, underscoring ongoing negotiations and legal complexities in the case.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reportedly agreed to comply with conditions set by the Federal Government for his release from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody.
This information was disclosed by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe during a meeting between Southeast senators and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, attended by around 15 federal lawmakers. Abaribe expressed hope that the Attorney-General could influence the government's decision regarding Kanu's release.
However, Aloy Ejimakor, a member of Kanu’s legal team, clarified that Kanu had agreed to abide by "negotiated terms" rather than any conditions imposed unilaterally by the government. This agreement aligns with similar terms negotiated in August 2017. The discussions and negotiations around Kanu's potential release have been ongoing, with various political and legal implications at stake.
