Israel DMW has urged Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo to resign, alleging electoral fraud and unrest in the state. He claimed the “ancestors” were angry and compared the election to Nigeria’s June 12 crisis. While Okpebholo remains silent, the controversy continues to stir political debate.
Popular socialite and Davido’s aide, Israel DMW, has publicly urged Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to resign immediately and hand over power to Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last election.
In an Instagram post, Israel claimed that Ighodalo was the true winner of the election and accused Okpebholo’s administration of bringing instability to Edo State. He further alleged that “ancestors” were displeased with the election outcome, comparing it to Nigeria’s controversial June 12, 1993, election.
“The entire state has not had peace since you took over. The ancestors are angry over the robbery that took place,” he wrote, insisting that the real truth behind the election will eventually be revealed.
Governor Okpebholo, who won under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not responded to Israel’s allegations. However, the election remains a contentious issue, with opposition voices questioning its credibility.
Israel’s comments have sparked debate on social media, with some dismissing his claims while others supporting his call for justice. Critics argue that governance is complex and not as straightforward as resigning due to public pressure.
Despite the controversy, Okpebholo continues to oversee the state’s affairs, while the PDP and other opposition figures maintain their stance on alleged electoral irregularities. Whether the governor will address Israel DMW’s claims remains to be seen.
