Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has shared his aspiration to lead Nigeria to victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Despite the team's heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Cote d'Ivoire in the final of the 2023 AFCON, Iwobi remains optimistic about the future. Speaking on the podcast Is This Seat Taken, Iwobi expressed his determination to secure Nigeria's fourth continental title, stating, “We were close in the last one, and we aim to win the next.”

For the 2025 AFCON, Nigeria has been drawn in a tough group alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Iwobi, reflecting on his career with the Super Eagles, also recalled his memorable goal against Zambia in 2017, which secured Nigeria’s place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He fondly remembered the moment, especially with his parents in attendance.

Iwobi also recalled his highlight from the 2023 AFCON, when the Super Eagles triumphed over South Africa in a penalty shootout to reach the final. As the team gears up for the next continental competition, Iwobi’s passion for winning the AFCON shines through.
