At the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo achieved significant recognition for his role in the historical thriller Jagun Jagun, winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Jagun Jagun, a film lauded for its cultural depth, also claimed awards for visual effects and makeup, highlighting its technical achievements in filmmaking.
The event, held in Lagos, honored a range of African cinematic talent. Elsie Abang won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for KIPKEMBOI, while Michell Lemuya was named Best Young Promising Actor for NAWI. In lead roles, Zolisa Xaluva and Jackie Appiah took home Best Actor and Actress for their performances in The Queenstown King and Red Carpet, respectively.
Additionally, Harry Bentil’s Letters to Goddo was awarded Best Feature Film by a Director, and The Weekend stood out as AMAA’s Best Film, also earning awards in Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Nigerian Film.
Lifetime achievement awards went to Souleymane Cissé, Nacer Khemir, and Haile Gerima for their enduring impact on African cinema, while Under the Hanging Tree won both the Achievement in Editing and the Michael Anyiam-Osigwe Award for Best Film by an African Abroad.
