
The National Council of State has approved Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as the nominee for the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

- Born in April 1967 in Aiyetoro-Gbede, Kogi State. He graduated top of his class at the University of Jos, winning the Richard Akinjide Prize.
- A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a rank he earned in August 2014 for his contributions to legal scholarship.
- Serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos.
- Holds three law degrees, LL.B (1987), LL.M (1993), and Ph.D. in Law (2007), all from the University of Jos.
- Began as an Assistant Lecturer in 1989 and became a Professor of Law in 2008, receiving the Teslim Elias Award for meritorious service.
- Expert in Company Law and Corporate Governance. He served as Head of Public Law and was twice elected Dean of the Faculty of Law.
- Involved in litigation, has served on corporate boards, and contributed to national initiatives like Vision 2020.
