Former President Goodluck Jonathan has offered words of encouragement to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, amidst ongoing political turmoil in the state. Speaking at an event in Nihi Community, Etche Local Government Area, on Sunday, Jonathan reassured Fubara not to be discouraged by the challenges he is currently facing. Jonathan, drawing from his own experience, compared political battles to a process that transforms individuals into leaders, likening Fubara’s political journey to the forging of a general in the military.
“I know you’re facing challenges, and I usually stay quiet during times like this, but this is a crucial moment for you. No one becomes a general without fighting wars. What you're experiencing now is shaping you for greater things ahead,” Jonathan remarked. He expressed confidence that with Fubara’s commitment and the support of the people of Rivers State, he would emerge victorious.
Jonathan also underscored the importance of Rivers State to the Niger Delta region, emphasizing that instability in the state could have far-reaching consequences for the entire country. He called for peace in Rivers, stating that the current challenges should not lead to unnecessary conflict, as the state’s development is vital to the nation's prosperity.
Jonathan concluded by stressing the temporary nature of political office, encouraging Fubara to remain focused on his work, and assured him that after his tenure, another leader would take the helm.
The former president was also honored with the title of Eze Udo 1 of Etche by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers during the event.
