Adanma Luke, a Nollywood actress, has asked Nigerians for forgiveness after the tragic boat accident that claimed the life of actor Junior Pope and four others. In an emotional video, she expressed her sorrow and struggles with guilt, while the AGN temporarily suspended productions involving riverine locations.
Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has publicly pleaded with Nigerians to forgive her following the tragic death of actor Junior Pope Jide Awobona and four others in a boat accident on April 10. The incident occurred while they were traveling to a film location on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State. In response to the tragedy, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) temporarily suspended all productions involving riverine locations, warning filmmakers against working with Luke until further notice. However, the AGN lifted the suspension on August 3.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Luke expressed her deep sorrow, revealing that she has been overwhelmed by sadness and guilt since the accident. She conveyed her struggle to cope with the backlash she has faced online, stating, “I am gradually losing my life.” Adanma described how the tragedy has affected her ability to work, stressing that she has been unable to find employment since the incident and is concerned about the impact on her young child, who was just months old at the time.
Reactions from social media have been mixed, with some users supporting Luke and calling for compassion, while others have criticized her. One user stated that no amount of criticism would bring back the deceased, urging others to allow her to heal. Meanwhile, another emphasized the severity of her negligence, stating that it had devastating consequences for the bereaved families.
