The Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno, has intervened in the tragic death of Abigail Frederick, a makeup artist who perished in a boat mishap alongside Nollywood actor Jnr Pope and three others on April 10.
Abigail's body was discovered on April 11 and reportedly buried by the riverbank after villagers insisted she must be interred there due to alleged failure by her family to appease the river goddess with a sacrifice.
In response, the state government released a statement expressing condolences and announcing Governor Umo Eno's directive to bring Abigail's remains back to Akwa Ibom for a proper burial.
Describing Abigail as a shining example of the youth, the statement highlights her achievements as a 24-year-old Theatre Arts graduate who pursued her passion as a makeup artist.
The government clarified that it was not informed of the circumstances surrounding Abigail's burial, indicating a lack of official involvement in the decision.
Governor Umo Eno's directive aims to ensure that Abigail receives the dignified farewell she deserves, offering support to her family, the Nollywood community, and her friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
The statement concludes with a heartfelt tribute to Abigail, echoing the sentiment that she will not "walk alone" as she embarks on her final journey.
It ends with a prayer for her soul to rest in peace.
Ekerete Udoh, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, conveyed the government's message, emphasizing the importance of honoring Abigail's memory and providing closure for her loved ones.
