The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted speculations of plans to suspend Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of the state, for alleged anti-party activities. Responding to inquiries from TheCable on Tuesday night, Salisu Wusono, the spokesperson of the APC in Kaduna, dismissed the reports, stating unequivocally, "Nothing like this!"
The rumors of el-Rufai's purported suspension arose following his recent interactions, including meetings with Abdul Ningi, the senator suspended over claims of budget padding, and a visit to the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja. These engagements fueled discussions on social media platforms, with conjectures of el-Rufai's potential political maneuvers.
However, Shehu Gabam, the national chair of the SDP, downplayed the significance of el-Rufai's visit, citing a longstanding personal relationship and asserting that political motives should not be inferred. El-Rufai, a key figure in the formation of the APC ahead of the 2015 elections, has recently come under scrutiny as the Kaduna State House of Assembly initiated an investigation into the handling of "multi-million dollar loans" during his administration.
