Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, has been detained for allegedly diverting rice meant for soldiers and selling military equipment to scrap dealers. He faces interrogation by military police, and a replacement has been appointed as investigations continue.
Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, the commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, has been detained in a military police guardroom in Abuja due to serious allegations of misconduct. Reports indicate that he is accused of diverting rice intended for soldiers and selling military equipment, including generators and operational vehicles, to scrap dealers. The rice was initially distributed by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters as a palliative measure for soldiers, but sources claim that Sadiq only distributed limited amounts, selling the majority instead.
The investigation into Sadiq's actions has revealed that he allegedly misappropriated military equipment from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano, which he also sold off illegally. In light of these allegations, he has been replaced by Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, who previously served as the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Sadiq is currently under interrogation by the special investigation branch of the military police, following his invitation to Abuja for questioning. The military is conducting a thorough investigation, and he may face court-martial proceedings based on the findings. Efforts to reach Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesman for the Nigerian Army, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
