Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II discusses the ongoing dispute with deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, empathizing with the pain caused by the governor's recent dethronement actions. Sanusi emphasizes the need to restore the emirate's historical order and calls for unity among the royal family and citizens of Kano.
Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has commented on the ongoing dispute with the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
This conflict arises from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's decision to reinstate Sanusi while dethroning Bayero, who is contesting this action in court.
Governor Yusuf's directive resulted in the removal of Bayero and four other emirs, instructing them to vacate their positions within 48 hours.
Bayero, who was not in Kano at the time, returned and occupied the mini palace in Nasarawa, defying the governor’s order and prompting his arrest.
Bayero has challenged the governor’s decision legally, seeking to nullify the law used to depose him and reinstate Sanusi.
In an interview, Sanusi expressed understanding for those affected, noting they had benefited from the previous system for four years and now face its abrupt end.
Sanusi explained, “We are dealing with a situation where divisions were created. People enjoyed certain privileges for four years, and now losing them causes hurt. The issue began four years ago, not today. We are one family, divided by these changes.”
Sanusi criticized former Governor Ganduje’s creation of new emirates, stating that they disrupted a thousand-year tradition and lacked historical basis. He emphasized that the current governor's actions aim to restore the original order and preserve the emirate's heritage.
Sanusi called for unity among the royal family and citizens, stressing the importance of restoring the emirate's glory and protecting its history. He acknowledged the pain felt by those who lost their positions but emphasized the necessity of these actions for the greater good.
