The Kano State Police Command has arrested Usman Sagiru, 20, for allegedly stabbing a vigilante in Emir Sanusi II’s Eid entourage. The attack left one dead and another injured. Authorities are investigating, warning against disruptions to public order. The police have reaffirmed their ban on Durbar celebrations.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Usman Sagiru for his alleged involvement in a deadly attack on vigilante members escorting Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from the Eid praying ground. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, as worshippers were dispersing from the gathering.

According to the police, Sagiru and other suspects, who remain at large, reportedly attacked and stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters. Rabiu later succumbed to his injuries, while another victim, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

Authorities have intensified investigations into the attack and have invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano, for questioning. The police reiterated their ban on Durbar celebrations and warned against any activities that could threaten public peace.

The Kano State Police Command assured residents of their commitment to maintaining security and urged the public to remain calm. The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
