The Kano State Hisbah Board Department of Public Enlightenment has issued a warning to non-Muslims in the state, cautioning against eating in public places during the Ramadan fasting period. Abba Sai’Idu, the Director-General of the Board, emphasized the unlawfulness of Christians and other non-Muslims openly consuming food or engaging in activities that might undermine Islamic practices or tempt those observing the fast.
He revealed the enforcement team's increased patrols across the city to apprehend any Muslims engaging in practices contrary to Islamic culture during the holy month. Ramadan mandates Muslims to abstain from eating, drinking, sex, smoking, and other prohibited acts during daylight hours, as per the Holy Quran.
This announcement aligns with the Kano State Hisbah Board's past actions, known for arresting individuals seen eating during Ramadan in previous years. The move has sparked concerns about religious freedom and the extent of enforcement during the sacred month.
