Retired Major General Maharazu Tsiga, ex-NYSC DG, has been kidnapped in Katsina State, with abductors demanding a N250 million ransom. The attack, which injured two residents, is part of the ongoing bandit crisis in the North-West. Police are investigating, vowing to rescue Tsiga and other abducted villagers.

Retired Major General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been kidnapped by armed bandits in Katsina State. The abduction occurred in Tsiga village, Kankara Local Government Area, where several other residents were also taken.

Sources close to Tsiga’s family revealed that the kidnappers have contacted them, demanding a ransom of N250 million for his release. The attack, which happened late Wednesday, saw gunmen storm the village with sophisticated weapons, causing panic among residents. During the invasion, two people sustained injuries, while one of the attackers was accidentally shot by his accomplices.

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the incident, assuring the public that security agencies are actively working to rescue the victims. Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq stated that officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving distress calls, but the assailants had already fled with their hostages. He added that security forces are collaborating with local authorities and vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers.

Katsina, like many states in northern Nigeria, has been plagued by banditry, with criminals frequently abducting villagers for ransom. In recent years, these armed groups have also carried out mass kidnappings of students and attacks on rural communities.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant as efforts intensify to curb the escalating insecurity in the region. Meanwhile, negotiations and security operations are ongoing to secure the release of Tsiga and other kidnapped victims.
