Heavy rains in Natsinta village, Katsina, have destroyed 250 homes, displacing residents who now face severe hardships. The flooding, worsened by inadequate drainage, has left many injured and without shelter. Local officials have pledged support and are calling for aid to help affected families.

Severe rainfall in Natsinta village, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, has led to the destruction of at least 250 homes. The torrential rain, which persisted from August 15 to 17, 2024, resulted in significant damage and displacement for many residents. While no fatalities have been reported, some individuals sustained injuries, and the loss of homes and valuables has created a state of distress.

The village's lack of proper drainage systems contributed to the scale of the flooding. Resident Mas’udu Lawal highlighted the role of a blocked drainage channel, which intensified the impact of the storm. Another resident, Abdurrahman Ibrahim, reported extensive property damage, with losses running into millions of Naira.

On August 17, 2024, Hon. Mustapha Yusuf, the representative for the Jibia Local Government Area, visited the affected area. He assured residents that the state assembly is committed to assisting and urged various stakeholders, including government officials and business leaders, to support the recovery efforts.

The District Head of Daddara, Alhaji Usman Nagoggo, expressed concern over the widespread destruction and called for immediate and compassionate support for the affected community. Displaced residents are struggling with additional challenges, including existing issues of poverty, insecurity, and food scarcity, making the need for aid even more pressing.
