Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has praised Ghana's 2024 presidential election as a blueprint for credible elections across Africa. He congratulated John Mahama, the president-elect and candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on his victory, highlighting the peaceful electoral process and its significance for the continent’s democracy.

Fayemi lauded Mahamudu Bawumia, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate and Ghana's outgoing vice president, for his gracious concession speech, describing it as a mark of exemplary African political leadership. Bawumia's acceptance of the electoral outcome, Fayemi noted, prioritizes national unity over personal ambition.

In his statement, Fayemi emphasized the importance of respecting the people's will as the cornerstone of democracy. He urged African political actors to emulate Ghana’s democratic practices, emphasizing that elections must reflect the electorate's choices without coercion or manipulation.

"Ghana has demonstrated that democracy can thrive in Africa when institutions function independently and leaders prioritize collective interests over individual aspirations," Fayemi stated. He also commended the role of Ghana’s Electoral Commission in ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

Fayemi concluded by urging Nigeria and other African nations to adopt Ghana’s electoral practices as a model for strengthening democratic values. He emphasized that Mahama’s leadership and Bawumia’s maturity had deepened the democratic culture in Ghana, making it a beacon of hope for the continent.

The election has drawn widespread acclaim for its peaceful conduct, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a model for democracy in Africa.
