Kenneth Okonkwo lauded Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his resolve during the local elections, calling on politicians to fight for their supporters. Okonkwo, still a Labour Party member, highlighted Fubara’s leadership as essential for Nigerian democracy, urging leaders to prioritize accountability and defend their supporters' votes.
Actor and former Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo has praised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his tenacity during the recent local government elections. Despite challenges, including the withdrawal of security forces and political resistance, Fubara proceeded with the elections, ensuring democracy prevailed in Rivers State.
Okonkwo commended Fubara's willingness to stand up for his constituents, contrasting it with other politicians he perceives as unwilling to fight for their supporters. Okonkwo, who distanced himself from Labour Party's presidential candidate Peter Obi earlier this year, expressed frustration with politicians who lack the resolve to defend electoral integrity. Speaking with Soar TV, Okonkwo emphasized that he seeks leaders who are ready to confront election manipulation and protect the democratic process. He noted that Fubara’s persistence is an example of the kind of leadership needed to reinforce democracy in Nigeria.
Okonkwo also clarified his commitment to the Labour Party, advocating for the party’s growth and consolidation, while urging politicians to embody courage and resilience. He stressed that political leaders should defend their supporters' votes, even at personal risk. In his view, true political leadership involves a readiness to face challenges head-on, regardless of potential dangers.
