Kenneth Okonkwo claims Nyesom Wike’s ministerial role under Tinubu has weakened the PDP, making it subservient to the APC. He also dismissed Atiku’s bribery accusations, arguing that opposition parties are responsible for their failures. Okonkwo urged them to take accountability and resist external influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Labour Party chieftain and former presidential campaign spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that the appointment of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as a minister under President Bola Tinubu has weakened the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in an interview on Friday, Okonkwo stated that Wike’s acceptance of the ministerial role has placed PDP leaders in a subservient position to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that this has significantly diminished the party’s ability to act as a strong opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Okonkwo, Wike and the G5 faction openly worked against PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in 2023. Instead of facing consequences, they were accommodated, and now, with Wike in the APC-led government, the opposition party has lost credibility.
Addressing Atiku’s recent claims that the APC is bribing opposition figures, Okonkwo argued that such statements only expose the opposition’s internal weaknesses. He asserted that political destabilization is a common strategy and that it is the responsibility of opposition parties to resist corruption and external influence.
He criticized the PDP and other opposition groups for failing to present a united front, stating that their inability to resist political offers shows a lack of competence and integrity. He urged them to take responsibility, restructure, and refocus on their role as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
