The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued certificates to corps members who were kidnapped during their service year in Sokoto State. The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, announced that these individuals, who were abducted on August 17, 2023, in Zamfara State while en route to their orientation camp, will not be required to complete their service due to the trauma they endured.

The corps members were released in batches, with the last group freed on August 22, 2024. Ahmed emphasized that no ransom was paid for their release, crediting the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Army for their efforts. One of the rescued corps members, Emmanuel Esudue Emmanuel, described the experience as deeply traumatic and expressed gratitude to the security agencies and NYSC for their roles in securing their freedom.

The NYSC assured that the security agencies are continuing their efforts to bring the kidnappers to justice, although no arrests have been made yet.
