Ali Bello, the newly appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi, finds himself entangled in a legal battle as he stands trial for money laundering.
Bello, who is a nephew to the immediate former governor, Yahaya Bello, was among the recently announced appointees by Ododo. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Bello, alongside three others, for allegedly misappropriating N3,081,804,654.
Pleading not guilty to the 18-count charge related to criminal misappropriation and money laundering, the defendants were remanded at a correctional center pending a ruling on their bail application.
They were later granted bail, each in the sum of N500 million, with stringent conditions set by the presiding judge, Obiora Egwuatu.
