Bishop Matthew Kukah criticized President Bola Tinubu for not signing the 2023 peace accord, highlighting its implications for the political climate. His remarks followed the PDP's refusal to sign a recent peace pact for the Edo State gubernatorial election, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among political parties.

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and a key figure in the National Peace Committee, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu did not sign the peace accord during the 2023 elections. His remarks came after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declined to participate in a recent peace agreement for the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election.

During a town hall meeting, Kukah noted that while the peace committee, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, cannot compel candidates to sign the accord, such refusals create negative implications for the political climate. He referenced past instances, including Tinubu's absence from the peace accord signing in 2022, highlighting that these actions can be strategically used by opposition parties.
