In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Kuriga town, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, bandits executed a daring invasion of LEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), leaving the community in a state of unrest.
Dozens of pupils were reportedly abducted, with conflicting reports estimating the number at around 100. The abduction occurred at 8:20 am immediately after the morning assembly on Thursday, shocking both students and staff.
The headteacher of the school, along with several other staff members, are said to be among the victims. Due to security concerns, the junior and secondary school had previously relocated to the school building within Kuriga town, abandoning their former premises outside the town. Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos as most pupils fled their classrooms upon sighting the bandits.
According to residents, the abducted victims were subsequently marched into the forest. As the community grapples with the aftermath, there has been no official reaction from the state government, and attempts to reach key officials, including the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, and the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, have so far been unsuccessful.
This alarming incident raises renewed concerns about the security of educational institutions in the region and calls for urgent intervention to address the escalating crisis.
