Kwara cleric Yahya Nafiu seeks financial help after his wife reportedly gave birth to 11 babies in Benin Republic. Two babies died, leaving nine survivors. Nafiu is struggling to cover medical expenses and marriage rites and is appealing for assistance from the public and government.

A 56-year-old Islamic cleric from Kwara State, Yahya Nafiu, has appealed for financial help after his wife, Latoyossi Alake, reportedly gave birth to 11 babies. The extraordinary birth occurred in two batches at a traditional home in Porto-Novo, Benin Republic, between July 7 and August 14, 2024. Tragically, two of the infants passed away, leaving nine surviving babies—eight boys and one girl. Nafiu, who has been living in Cotonou for 19 years, expressed that the family is struggling to cover medical bills, marriage rites, and other expenses to bring the babies home to Ilorin. He has called on the government and kind-hearted individuals for assistance.

Social media reactions to the news have been mixed, with many expressing disbelief. Some users questioned the legitimacy of the birth, asking for medical evidence, while others criticized the cleric for having three wives and so many children despite his financial challenges. Others offered prayers and support, acknowledging the birth as a blessing but highlighting the need for population control and financial responsibility. The story has stirred considerable debate online, with some users expressing skepticism over the cleric's plea for help, while others emphasized the need for compassion and assistance.
