The Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has suspended its Caretaker Chairman, Hilda Dokubo, indefinitely over allegations of misconduct, extortion, and negligence. Her suspension, initiated by her ward in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, follows multiple petitions accusing her of inflating fees for party nominations, negotiating positions for personal benefit, and mismanaging party funds.
A statement from LP officials in Ward 3 ASALGA claims that Dokubo charged inflated fees for councilors and chairmanship aspirants during local elections, diverting excess payments under the guise of service charges. She is also accused of undermining the party during her 2023 House of Representatives campaign by allegedly urging candidates to compromise.
Furthermore, Dokubo allegedly failed to account for funds for party use and employed a “divide and rule” leadership style, hindering the party’s progress. Repeated invitations to address these allegations reportedly went unanswered, prompting her indefinite suspension.
Despite the accusations, Dokubo dismissed the suspension, calling it an attempt by some individuals to "try their luck."
The Labour Party has called for an investigation into the claims, signaling a potential shake-up in the party’s leadership in Rivers State.
