Judiciary staff in Abuja follow NLC and TUC orders, barring access to courts for judges and litigants. The strike halts legal proceedings in FCT High Court, Federal High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. The closure continues until further notice from the national NLC headquarters.
In compliance with the directive from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have locked out judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants from accessing courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The strike has effectively paralyzed court activities across various judicial divisions, including the FCT High Court, Maitama; the Federal High Court (FHC); the Court of Appeal; and the Supreme Court. Private security guards and a few police officers were stationed at the heavily locked gates, preventing entry into the court premises. Comrade Samuel Ikpatt, Chairman of the FHC Chapter of JUSUN, affirmed the union's full compliance with the strike directive, emphasizing that no court proceedings are taking place.
Similarly, Comrade Mohammed Danjuma-Yusuf, Treasurer of JUSUN's Court of Appeal Chapter, confirmed the complete shutdown of all branches of the Court of Appeal, with no access granted to judges or other court personnel. The gates will remain closed until the union receives further directives from the national headquarters of the NLC. The strike comes amid deadlock negotiations between organized labour and the government over workers' minimum wage, prompting the indefinite industrial action.
