A labourer in Ondo State has been arrested for allegedly killing his 60-year-old employer, Mrs. Adelugba, after she confronted him over stolen kolanuts. The suspect fled after the attack but was caught by villagers. Police have launched an investigation into the gruesome murder at the farm settlement.

A farm labourer in Ondo State has been arrested for allegedly killing his employer, Mrs. Adelugba, a 60-year-old farmer, at a settlement in Laoso, Laje Camp.

Sources say the victim had employed the suspect to manage her kola nut farms and allowed him to live with her. Trouble reportedly began when she discovered he had been stealing from the farm. She confronted him and warned that stealing was strictly punished in their community. Though the suspect initially promised to repay her with his wages, tensions escalated as she continued to press the issue.

On Saturday, the labourer allegedly attacked Mrs. Adelugba with a machete, killing her on the farm. In an attempt to hide the crime, he covered her body with leaves before fleeing. However, villagers, suspecting foul play, quickly tracked and apprehended him.

When confronted, he reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that he was overwhelmed by her persistent demands regarding the stolen kolanuts. He later led local authorities to the crime scene, where the body was recovered and taken to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital mortuary.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect had been transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau in Akure for further investigation. Officials assured that the case would be thoroughly examined and justice served.
