The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is investigating a woman filmed destroying her husband's passport at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, is under scrutiny for potentially breaching immigration laws. The woman claims it was an act of protest against her husband.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an investigation following an incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, where a woman was filmed allegedly destroying her husband's passport. The videos, which surfaced on social media, depict fragments of the passport scattered on the airport floor. In one clip, the woman is heard defiantly saying, “I tore it,” and dismissing concerns about her actions.

The woman, who was seen leaving the scene with her children while her husband remained behind with a stroller, later provided her side of the story. She claimed that her actions were motivated by long-standing issues with her husband and asserted that she had been mistreated.

The NIS has identified the woman and invited her for questioning. If her actions are confirmed, they may violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015, which pertains to the unauthorized destruction of passports. The Act prescribes penalties for such breaches, emphasizing the NIS’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws to ensure national security.

As the investigation continues, the NIS has stressed the importance of adhering to the Immigration Act and is dedicated to addressing any violations that undermine its provisions. The case highlights the NIS's ongoing efforts to maintain integrity and order within Nigeria's immigration processes.
